Career Opportunities at IU1
Intermediate Unit 1 is dedicated to serving the vast array of educational needs of the schools in Fayette, Greene and Washington Counties in a cost effective and efficient manner. IU1 currently offers more than 150 services across our Adult Basic Learning and Education, Nonpublic Schools, English as a Second Language, Business Services, Human Resources, Information Services, Instructional Support Services, and Special Education department sectors. In our Special Education department we offer speech support, learning support, vision support, hearing support, autistic support, emotional support, multi-disability support, life support, and alternative education services. We offer transition support, school psychologist, and social workers services to the 25 school districts and four vocational technical schools throughout the three county area. Our Early Intervention programs continue to grow as a function of more intensive focus on early detection.
Our Information Services department provides the latest educational technology resources, services, and assistance to area schools. Our personnel work in computer repair, network management, distance learning, virtual fieldtrips, technology integration workshops, media repair, and online library resources.
The IU1 Adult, Nonpublic, and ESL Education Service department served 815 students while our Nonpublic Education Program served over 2,551 students as our English as a Second Language served 56 students.
Our Instructional Support Services department registered for more than 10,000 professionals in training and education programs in 2008–2009, including 170 professionals in our seven ESL online certification courses. This department offers paraprofessional training, nonviolent crisis prevention, autism forum and support, graduate level courses for teachers and administrators, workshops and support in curriculum assessment and instruction.
Guests might be surprised to learn that our business service department offers a health consortium, gas consortium, electric consortium, and cooperative purchasing that saved our taxpayers more than $8 million last year. They also billed closed to $2 million last year through ACCESS funding reimbursements.
The Human Resources department was busy hiring more than 500 administrative, professional, and support staff over the last 10 years. We offer a competitive compensation to our employees.
